Drawing Graphs as Spanners

چکیده
We study the problem of embedding graphs in plane as good geometric spanners. That is, for a graph G, goal is to construct straight-line drawing $$\Gamma $$ G such that, any two vertices u and v ratio between minimum length path from Euclidean distance small. The maximum ratio, over all pairs spanning . First, we show that deciding whether admits with 1, proper planar 1 are NP-complete, $$\exists \mathbb R$$ -complete, linear-time solvable problems, respectively, where if no overlap edge overlaps vertex. Second, moving $$1+\epsilon allows us draw every graph. Namely, prove $$\epsilon >0$$ , (planar) (resp. planar) smaller than Third, our drawings have large edge-length longest shortest exponential. this sometimes unavoidable. More generally, identify having bounded toughness criterion distinguishes admit constant polynomial require exponential ratio.

GMap: Drawing Graphs as Maps
Abstract. Information visualization is essential in making sense out of large data sets. Often, high-dimensional data are visualized as a collection of points in 2-dimensional space through dimensionality reduction techniques. However, these traditional methods often do not capture well the underlying structural information, clustering, and neighborhoods. In this paper, we describe GMap: a prac...
متن کاملSpanners in Sparse Graphs
A t-spanner of a graph G is a spanning subgraph S in which the distance between every pair of vertices is at most t times their distance in G. If S is required to be a tree then S is called a tree t-spanner of G. In 1998, Fekete and Kremer showed that on unweighted planar graphs the tree t-spanner problem (the problem to decide whether G admits a tree t-spanner) is polynomial time solvable for ...
متن کاملDrawing bipartite graphs as anchored maps
A method of drawing anchored maps for bipartite graphs is presented. Suppose that the node set of a bipartite graph is divided into set A and set B. On an anchored map of the bipartite graph, the nodes in A, which are called “anchor nodes,” are arranged on the circumference, and the nodes in B, which are called “free nodes,” are arranged at suitable positions in relation to the adjacent anchor ...
متن کاملDrawing Graphs Within Graphs
The task of drawing subgraphs is often underestimated and they are simply emphasized using different colors or line styles. In this paper, we present an approach for drawing graphs within graphs that first produces a layout for the subgraphs thus increasing their locality. We introduce connection sets stressing relationships between several subgraphs. In a case study, we demonstrate how they ca...
متن کاملOn Spanners and Lightweight Spanners of Geometric Graphs
We consider the problem of computing spanners of Euclidean and unit disk graphs embedded in the two-dimensional Euclidean plane. We are particularly interested in spanners that possess useful properties such as planarity, bounded degree, and/or light weight. Such spanners have been extensively studied in the area of computational geometry and have been used as the building block for constructin...
